At Winter Firewood, sustainability is one of our top priorities. As we know it’s yours. Helping the world to reach its 2050 net zero goals is non-negotiable and we take a sustainable approach to everything we do.
We only sell wood sourced from responsibly suppliers and responsibly managed woodlands, where felling helps to uphold the vitality and diversity of the forests. Wherever possible, we ensure these suppliers and woodlands are based in the UK, to avoid transport costs and pollution.
All Winter Firewood suppliers work with forests that have Forest Stewardship Council accreditation. The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is a global, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management worldwide.
FSC defines standards based on agreed principles for responsible forest stewardship, including wildlife protection, that are supported by environmental, social, and economic stakeholders.
When we source wood from the European Union (EU), we also only work with suppliers who adhere to the European Union Timber Regulation (EUTR) policies. This prohibits the retailing of illegally harvested timber.
We exclusively sell Ready to Burn accredited wood, ensuring it’s certified for immediate use. With a moisture content of less than 20%, it burns more efficiently, emitting less smoke compared to wetter wood. This not only aids in reducing pollution but also enhances air quality. Read more here.
We promise to operate in line with the most stringent environmental principles, striving to eliminate plastic usage entirely (or almost entirely!). Our merchandise comes in smartly designed, recyclable boxes that seal themselves without the need for plastic packing tape. For lighter items, we exclusively use paper tape to secure the boxes, eliminating the use of harmful plastic tape as part of our commitment to sustainability.
We don’t sell petroleum-based firelighters. Instead we offer our 100% natural firelighters which are chemical free and totally brilliant for starting fires. All of our wood is untreated and chemical free, as well as being kiln dried to reduce the release of harmful particles. Ready more about environmental impact here.
